Comparative record
Which African countries require CPD
Where a continuing professional development duty exists, who it applies to, and where there is none. The absences are the point: no institution has a remit to publish where its own system does not reach.
5 of 5 markets checked so far, against the statutory health regulator in each. A country is added to this table when a primary source has been read, not when a plausible answer is available.
| Country | CPD required | Qualifications framework | Route for a foreign qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| South Africa | Health professions checked | National Qualifications Framework (NQF) | SAQA Certificate of Evaluation |
| Kenya | Medical and dental checked | Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) | CUE recognition and equation |
| Nigeria | Doctors and dentists checked | Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) | Federal Ministry of Education evaluation |
| Ghana | Medical and dental checked | National TVET Qualifications Framework (NTVETQF) | GTEC credential evaluation |
| Rwanda | Doctors, figure is dated | Rwanda TVET Qualification Framework (RTQF) | HEC equivalence certificate |

What this table does not say
It does not yet say what every profession in a country must do. The entries here rest on the statutory health regulator in each market, because that is what has been read against a primary source. Engineering, accountancy, teaching and law set their own requirements, and those have not been checked. Each country page names which regulator was read and which were not.
A duty existing or not existing is a fact about a country’s rules. It is not a judgement on the country, on its institutions, or on the professionals working there. Countries organise recognition differently, and an absence in this column often means the duty sits somewhere this table does not look, such as with an individual professional body or an employer.
Where that is the case, the country page says so. How we check sets out what counts as a source here and what we will not publish.
